Labor Day is here and that means there are lots of activities and celebrations happening on Cape Cod to close out the summer season. But before you make your final trip to the beach, you’ll want to get caught up on all the latest news the Cape Cod Times has to offer.
The final week of August brought unexpected weather, an update on the ongoing case centered around the manager and principal owner of The Music Room, plus plenty of high school football previews for the upcoming season on the Cape Cod Times’ sports page.

Because of her role in an April 6 school field trip to Boston that left two students stranded there, Barnstable High School Associate Principal Hope Taylor has been fired.
Barnstable Public Schools Superintendent Sara Ahern placed Taylor on leave on April 8, along with the two other chaperones on the trip.
The three staff members left two students behind after a Belle of the Ball prom dress selection event on April 6 at the John B. Hynes Veterans Convention Center in Boston. The outing was a school-sponsored field trip.
The two students were brought back to the Cape later that day by organizers of the Belle of the Ball.

Did RFK Jr. cut the head off a dead whale and take it home? An old interview in which his daughter says he did has resurfaced, leading an environmental advocacy group to call for government officials to investigate.
Kick Kennedy told Town and Country in 2012 that her father had cut off the whale’s head with a chainsaw after he heard it washed up on Squaw Island in 1994. She said he bungee-corded it to the roof of the family minivan to bring back to Mount Kisco, New York, apparently to study.
In a letter to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund said it is illegal to possess any part of an animal, dead or alive, that is protected under either the Marine Mammal Protection Act or the Endangered Species Act.

The Regal Cinemas movie theater at the Cape Cod Mall will be looking a lot different in the near future.
Bill Hanney, owner of Entertainment Cinemas, Theatre By The Sea and North Shore Music Theatre, has announced plans to expand his empire with Bill Hanney’s Entertainment Experience at the Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis.
Hanney said he has signed a 40-year lease with Simon Properties to take over the approximately 50,000 square feet that now houses 12 Regal Cinemas.
He said that the new complex will include a live performing arts theater; five to six luxury movie theaters, including an IMAX theater, for first-run and arthouse films; clubs with upholstered banquettes for comedy, cabaret and jazz and blues entertainment; a sports bar and a country music bar.

Wes Wherever posts videos about his outdoor adventures in unexpected places throughout the country. For the past few months, Wes has been documenting a cross-country camper van trip with his mom and her dog, starting in Pennsylvania and working his way up the East Coast, gaining 30K subscribers on the way.
In each state, Wes has uploaded videos of himself stealth camping, also known as free camping or boondocking, at various unconventional camping sites, and the Bourne Rotary was one of his most recent locations.
